Upendra has a great sense of humour and a natural curiosity, and nothing was ever too much trouble. More than that, he showed a genuine level of care and warmth that made it feel less like a service and more like travelling with a friend. He seemed to instinctively know when to step in with helpful suggestions and when to step back, which we really appreciated.
The van itself was extremely comfortable throughout, and Upendra’s driving was excellent—even in some of the more challenging conditions we encountered. On more than one occasion, we picked up a nail in the tyre, he handled the repairs quickly and efficiently with no disruption to our plans, which really sums up his professionalism and experience.
When our daughter lost her glasses in the sea, he once again went above and beyond to help us quickly arrange replacements—something that could have easily disrupted our trip but instead was handled effortlessly thanks to him.
Looking back, we can’t believe we even considered using individual transfers—having a dedicated driver made the entire experience smoother, richer, and far more enjoyable. We genuinely cannot imagine doing the same trip around Sri Lanka without him.

When we arrived late on a Saturday night, Upendra was there to greet us. From then until the late night drop off at the airport two weeks later, he really helped to oil the wheels of a fantastic holiday. He was always on time (in fact, early), very professional, completely on top of our complex itinerary and only too willing to accommodate last minute requests. He also helped out with other things, whether that was making sure we were constantly supplied with water or providing us with umbrellas (even on one occasion coming to find us because it started raining while we were away from the vehicle).

  Anuradhapura Visit  - We visited Anuradhapura during the Poson festival, which is one of the most important religious events in Sri Lanka. The city was very crowded, and the roads were full of... read more vehicles, as thousands of people had come to celebrate.

Our driver was very careful and made sure we had a safe and comfortable journey. The car was clean, and the air conditioning kept us cool throughout the trip, which made the long drive more pleasant.

We visited Ruwanwelisaya, Thuparamaya, Jetavanaramaya, the Samadhi Buddha Statue, Abhayagiriya, the Moonstone, the oldest Bo tree, Isurumuniya Temple, and Mihintale Temple.

Throughout the day, there were many "dansal" – stalls where people offered free food and drinks to everyone. We stopped at several of them to enjoy refreshing drinks and delicious local meals. It felt heartwarming to see how people came together to share happiness and kindness during the festival.

Overall, it was a meaningful and unforgettable experience filled with culture, spirituality, and generosity.

Upendra was always offering to suggestions for sights along our journey and we stopped at numerous places we would not otherwise have seen from roadside stops for buffalo curd, Jack fruit and coconut to short side trips to statues and lesser visited temples.

The van was always clean and Upendra was always early for our nominated start times each day ensuring we got underway. He even turned into our group photographer on some stops taking additional photos and sending them on to us.

  12 days in Sri Lanka  - We did a 12 day trip organised by Anton whose communication prior to the trip was good.
However our driver had flu/cold when we started which soon spread to us.... read more /> He was lacking in ideas and information, spent far too much time on his phone,
was mostly a careful driver but at times appeared bored and disinterested.
We stayed in 8 hotels,5 of which were very good 4 were very dated and below our expectation.
We arranged a different route from Wilpattu to Colombo approximately 50 kilometers extra to the trip.On the day Anton wanted $US30,we paid $US20 as a compromise.
Wilpattu National Park safari consists of driving for nearly 4 hours on very rough tracks.This is not a wild life safari and in our opinion not worth the cost.
